An emerging self-checkout scam, which went unnoticed by both staff and customers for several days, has prompted cybersecurity experts to issue urgent warnings. Vahid Behzadan, assistant professor of cybersecurity at the University of Connecticut and director of the SAIL Lab, advised shoppers to remain vigilant by checking around card readers for signs of tampering. He also recommended enabling transaction notifications on smartphones to monitor for suspicious activity. This caution comes as cybercriminals continue to target vulnerable payment systems in retail environments.
